Fire Experience
The night of the Taranta
From the tradition of Salento folk music, played with a few notes that are repeated in an almost obsessive manner, accompanied by tambourines and a fascinating dance, comes an original event. La Notte della Taranta is a popular music festival dedicated to traditional Salento music and its contamination with other genres. It takes place in August, first in itinerant form in the squares of Grecìa Salentina (towns in the Salento of Hellenophone origin) and then in Melpignano, with the final concert.
Fire Experience
Sunrise at the Palacia Lighthouse
Seeing Italy's first sunrise is possible and enchanting. A thrilling experience, like the fiery red of the horizon in the east, amidst the blue and purple brushstrokes of the sea and sky. Located just a few kilometres from Altair, the Palacìa Lighthouse, an active lighthouse in Otranto, is an evocative place to carefully observe the phenomenon of dawn, far from the light and sound sources of urban centres. The lighthouse can be visited. In summer and on New Year's Eve it becomes the backdrop for exclusive events such as classical music concerts and theatre performances.

Fire Experience
Bauxite Lake
The Lake of Fire, located in Otranto, is a spectacle of intense colours. It is not a real lake but a brackish water deposit inside a former bauxite quarry, the mineral from which aluminium is made. The quarry, disused for several decades, is now home to one of the most iconic places in Salento. It is forbidden to bathe in those stagnant waters. Looking at the deep red that contrasts with the green of the water and the blue of the sky is enough to feel grateful for nature and its gifts.
